Keith Smith

Head Coach

Coach Smith is a Louisiana native and grew up in Monroe, La. While he attended high school he participated in football, basketball and baseball.  He was all-district and all- parish in basketball and baseball while attending Calhoun High.   He was also president of his class and a member of many clubs.  After graduating he attended La. College and later transferred to Northeast Louisiana University.   In college, he was a member of numerous college clubs and participated in baseball.

After graduating, he coached at Neville high school in Monroe.  He then made a move to Texas and coached at Malakoff, Victoria, Austin Westwood and Austin Westlake.   His first head coaching job in Texas landed Smith in the state championship while at Malakoff in his first and only year there.  This was Malakoff’s first trip ever to the state championship.   Smith has won 70% of his games and has a record of 370-153. Also, he has been to the playoffs 15 out of 16 years while at Westwood , Westlake and Longview. He has been named Coach of the Year 5 times, Dazzling Dozen coach of the year 2 times , Henderson County Coach of the Year, Cedar Creek Coach of the Year and East Texas Coach of the year while at Malakoff.  Also was named the Dennis Johnson All- Star coach in 2009.  He is a member of THSCA, TABC and TGCA and has been on numerous all-state and all-star committees.  He also has a basketball camp that he runs, called Texas Hoops, and has run this camp in Maui, Hawaii for 7 years.

Coach Smith’s parents still reside in Louisiana and he has a brother that travels all over the United States in a Jazz band.  Smith’s hobbies include working out, reading and travel.  He has played in 3 men’s fast pitch softball World Series’ and also loves music and concerts. He has an English bulldog named Kramer.

Vernecia DeVance

Assistant Coach/JV Coach

Vernecia grew up in Longview, Texas and is a former Lady Lobo. She participated and lettered in volleyball, basketball and track while she attended high school. After high school, she Oklahoma City University where she played basketball and a fifth year of volleyball. She graduated from OCU with a degree in Biology and a Master's degree in Health and Human Performance.  In 2010, she came back to her alma mater to teach Science and coach volleyball and basketball. Vernecia's parents still reside in Longview, Texas and she has a sister that graduated from Longview High in 2010 and is currently in college studying Physical Therapy.

Andrew Harbison

Assistant Coach/Freshman Coach

Andrew grew up in Sothern California, lettering in Basketball and Volleyball at West Torrance High School.  He attended Oklahoma Wesleyan University after high school where he played basketball for 2 years.  Andrew graduated with honors from OWU with a degree in Mathematics education.  He has taught math and coached in Oklahoma and Texas.  In 2005 Andrew came to be a Lobo where he has coached Basketball and Volleyball as well as teaches math.  Currently Andrew teaches Pre AP Algebra II, Pre AP Pre-Calculus and AP Statistics.  He also is the freshman Volleyball and Basketball coach.  Andrew’s family consists of wife Nikki Harbison, an English Teacher at LHS, and sister-in-law, Halie Waid.
