·                     Seniors: Tuesday, May 1st is national college decision day!  Every senior who has been accepted into college can stop by the College and Career center during your lunch period for free pizza to celebrate getting into college.  

·                     Friday, May 4th Mr. Hahn will be hosting a last minute college preparation workshop.  All students who come can work on anything they need to finish preparing for college before the school year ends.  Students of all grades are welcome, as long as they have a pass and permission from their teacher.

·                     Coach Clay would like to say congratulations to Eric Hawkins, Nick Young, Nathan Jones, Jared Love, and Deontre Wilson for qualifying to the state track meet in Austin,TX on May 12th.  Deontre Wilson finished second in the Discus with a throw of 169ft; Eric Hawkins finished in 1st place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.17; Nick Young finished in 1st place with a time of 38.20 in the 300 meter hurdles; Nathan Jones, Eric Hawkins, Jared Love, and Nick Young finished in 2nd place in the 400 meter relay with a time of 41.2. We are very proud of you.  Good job!  

·                     Seniors, there is a form called “Request for Final Transcript” that will be located at the Receptionist’s desk from now until the end of school.  Please complete this form if you plan to attend college in the fall.   Return the completed form to the Registrar as soon as possible.   Read the form carefully, as it has very important information regarding your final transcript.  

·                     Congratulations to the Lady Lobo softball team for a great season.  They ended the year by making it to the Bi-District playoffs. ·                     A

·                     Alley Fest 2012 is May 11 thru the 13^th – Volunteers Needed!
Alley Fest is just a few weeks away and they are seeking great volunteers to help make this year’s Alley Fest a huge success.  Many shifts are available on Friday night and all day Saturday.  All volunteers receive a Free T-shirt.  The Volunteer Information Sheet is located at the receptionist’s desk.  Please complete the form and return it back to Mrs. Watson at the Receptionist’s desk by May 7^th at 7:55 AM or call 903-295-4245.  

·                     Cheeburger Cheeburger at 3407 N. Fourth Street invites all LISD parents, students, employees and friends of Longview ISD to celebrate a successful school year and the coming summer all day on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Cheeburger Cheeburger will donate 15% of the restaurant’s receipts from the day to the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc.  Diners must bring the flyer that students were given at school for this fundraiser. Copies will be available at the restaurant!  You may also print a flyer from the LISD home page where the article about the partnership is posted.

·                     The Longview High School UIL Academics team traveled to Baylor University on April 20-21 to participate in the Region 5A academic meet.  Students earning a spot to compete at the state meet on May 21-22 include: Social Studies, Molly Adams, Coach -

First Place Team: Andrew O’Connor, Josh Hilscher, Pedro Berrios-Martinez and Alejandra Palameno; Journalism, Kevin Berns, Coach - Editorial Writing; Caroline Araiza – 3^rd Place Individual
Feature Writing: Cookie Guck – 4^th Place – First Alternate
Headline Writing: Cookie Guck – 3^rd Place
In addition to the six state bound finishers, Coach Heather Cisco’s Calculator Applications team took 2^nd Place team, which places them as a Wildcard team. Members include Andrew O’Connor, Taylor Yuen, Judson Daniels, and Chris Yu. Andrew O’Connor placed 5^th in Social Studies, while Cookie Guck finished 5^th in News Writing.

Congratulations to these students and coaches! Other regional qualifiers participating in the meet included Marcus Stroud, Yanitza Tapia, Karis Warren, Hannah Brown, Lucia Lopez, Sarah Konvalin, Jackson Schaap, LeGrand Northcutt, Cherryl Tronzon, Wynter Fielder, Cierra Walker, and Carly Hedrick.

·                     Congratulations to Longview FFA President Catherine Garland. She has been awarded the Longview Harvest Festival Patsy Hollinsworth Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $ 5000.00  

·                     This week was chosen by our school for the Longview Community Ministries’ food drive.  The total count will be matched with $l donation per item to hunger-fighting agencies nationwide (LCM) by a New Jersey philanthropist, Alan Shawn Feinstein.  With the week at an end, our school count is barely over 100 items.  LCM will accept food for the challenge through next week, so THIS WEEK END if you have nonperishables to share please remember the need and the drive!   

·                     We have lost, stolen, or misplaced items in the Student Service Center that MUST be picked up by next Friday, April 27, 2012 or they will be given away.

·                     The annual art auction will be held today, April 19 in the Little Theater.  The preview will begin at 5:30.  The Live Auction will begin at 7:00.  The Silent Auction will end at 8:00.  All students, parents, teachers, everyone is invited to join us.  This year we will have a REAL auctioneer!  Please come and help us make it a wonderful evening.

·                    The lobo tennis team wrapped up the district tournament yesterday finishing second in the boys and third in the girls in team points.  Special congrats to district champion Paulo Pliego for 1st place in boys singles and district runner up Nick Novy for 2nd in boys singles.  Congrats as well to district champions Ryan Pfaff and Jenelle Kral for 1st place in mixed doubles.  Congratulations to you guys on a great tournament and good luck at regionals!

Wednesday, April 11

·                     The boys Soccer Season ended last night in an amazingly exciting game at Lee High School.  After finding themselves 3 goals down, the Lobos almost tied it up with the last kick of the game, losing 3-2.  It was a fantastic season.  They finished with a record of 16-4-6.  They became District Champs for only the 3rd time in the programs History. This years seniors were a very special group of people that will be sadly missed by Coach Wright, and Coach Fenet. Senior Israel Madrid broke the School's "Single Season Scoring Record" with 28 goals. Celso Alejandro, Daladier Zamudio, Killian Briceno, Salym De Luna, and Jose Rojas proved to be the best group of defenders in the schools history. Seniors in Midfield , Hugo Flores, Mario Lopez, Chuy Soto, and Harrison Rice, played their hearts out in practice and games all season long.    Thank you teachers and administators for your support and words of encouragement.  It was a great season.

·                     The JV baseball team won last night 14 to 3 over Mesquite. They are now 5 and 1 in District. WAY TO GO LOBOS! They play Thursday here!

Sharon Rettig, Counselor of Global High has been named Counselor of the Year by the Piney Wood Counselor Association, a division of the Texas Counseling Association. Rettig is a career educator and consultant with 20 plus years in the educational arena. For the past 20 years, Ms. Rettig has addressed taking care of students holistically. Her focus has been on all learning levels with recent emphasis in children’s social and behavior skills with research in Relational Aggression. We are so proud of you Ms. Rettig and all that you have done not only for our school district and the students but for all of us at Longview High School.  Congratulations

This qualifies them for regional’s for the second straight year. Four of the five Longview Golfers made first team all district including Cheyann Alford with a two day total of 198, Emily Gruppi with a 201,  Allessia Scribner 227,  Meghan McNamara 214 other Lobo golfers Hanna Brown shot a 236, Bianca Woolley 259, Emily McCarty 260 and Andrea Simonton 270.
