Announcements for October 31 This is Red Ribbon Week – We encourage all to make smart, drug free choices. Today – is crazy sock day. Any student that has more than 7 unexcused absences – you need to see your assistant principal to schedule make up days. Students – Please utilize your lunch periods to your benefit make use of this time to go to the bath room and get a drink of water since drinks are not allowed in the building. There are too many students wanting to get out of class to use the bath rooms. For teachers….closing doors and send kids to get tardy passes. All of our substitute teachers will be attending a training program at the Administration Office this coming Monday. We encourage all of our teachers to avoid absences if at all possible. Seniors, if you have signed up for a transcript to be mailed to a college with campuses at different locations, you MUST give the Registrar the specific campus…for example, Blinn College, University of Houston, University of Arkansas, University of Texas are just a few of the colleges which have several different campuses. If the Registrar is unsure of which campus you meant, she will NOT be able to mail the transcript. In the past, Mrs. Fugler has tracked students down in the classroom to ask which campus they wanted…she has decided that it is not her responsibility, it is YOUR responsibility to be sure you have given her all the information she needs. If you have access to e-mail, you or your parents may e-mail information to her at pfugler@lisd.org. REMINDER: Students are ONLY allowed to park in the student parking lots at the front of the school. Any student parking in any other areas during regular school hours will be fined $25.00 and could lose their campus driving privileges. Longview High School will be conducting a mock election today, Oct 28 during their social studies classes in the TLC lab and Library. Students will need to produce their picture ID to vote. Students will use a state-of-art online voting system as they participate in a mock election program sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI), a national civic education program based at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. With millions of students expected to vote nationwide, the YLI Mock Election is the largest secure, student-only online mock election in the nation. There are 28 $5,000.00 Horatio Alger Scholarships available for any graduating senior in the state of Texas that wishes to pursue four years of college in Texas. In addition, there is a $5000 scholarship offer for an essay contest. The offer is from the International Order of the Golden Rule. Submissions must address the theme, “What my family means to me,” in 500 – 1000 words. Essays should be original and unpublished work. The essays should be turned into Mrs. Milam by Wednesday, November 12th. Lifetouch will be here to take faculty and underclassmen pictures on Tuesday, October 7th in the Little Theatre during English classes.
