Announcements:
Sophomores and Juniors!!! On February15, 2013, TCU will host the annual Minority
Student Leadership conference, which provides students with the opportunity to
be exposed to the college environment.
This one-day conference will provide students with more personalized
attention and hands-on experience in a college atmosphere.
Although, the event is in February, the DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS THURSDAY
NOVEMBER 8TH!! See Ms. Shorts in the College and Career center to
sign up.
Thank you to all of you who have contributed to help warm another family with a
Coats for Kids donations. Forever Friends has counted 144 coats donated from
Longview High School! The drive ends this week. Coats will be dry
cleaned for free by local cleaners and then distributed on Sat., Nov. 10th
from 8 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Broughton Recreational Center; 801 MLK. Children
must be present with an adult. Thank you, LHS, for your coat donations!
Meetings and events…….
There will be an FCCLA meeting Tuesday, November 7th, right after school in room
423. We will be discussing the upcoming volunteer projects with Longview
Ministries and Heartsway Hospice. Please bring your dues. Johnny’s Pizza, 3052 N. Eastman Road, invites the community to dine from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 6th. Johnny’s Pizza will donate 20% of the evening's receipts from take out orders or inside dining to the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc. in support of the Foundation’s grants programs. Invite your friends and family and join the Longview ISD Foundation and Johnny’s Pizza and enjoy delicious pizza, pasta, or sandwiches.

Congratulations to…….
This past Saturday the UIL Math Science Team went to Pine Tree for their first
competition of the year. In calculator, Andrew O’Connor placed 1st,
Chris Yu placed 3rd, and Simone Macklin placed 4th in
their respective grade levels. In Science, Andrew O’Connor placed 3rd
and Taylor Yuen placed 6th among senior competitors while Ehi
Ihionkhan placed 6th in his grade level. Other members that
competed and placed in the top 10 were Judson Daniels, Sabrina Campbell, Oscar
Martin, Jackson Schaap, and Addison Holcomb. Overall the Team placed 3rd
out of all schools in competition. If you see these student please
congratulate them on a job well done!

LHS will host a college financial aid workshop for juniors and seniors and their
parents tonight at 6:30 in the area outside the College and Career Center.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the kinds of financial aid you can
receive so you can attend college.

This weekend your Lobo Cross Country teams competed at the District meet in
Mesquite. We had four runners advance to the regional meet and they are Marcus
Martinez, Quintin Dellers, Kevin Grisham and Amber Redic. Congratulate these
athletes when you see them and GO LOBOS!
Congratulations to the lobo tennis team on an amazing year. The lobos
finished the year with a 19-5 record and advanced to the regional quarterfinals
this year, the farthest in over 20 years. Congrats on a great season.

The team is forming now and we will compete at our first practice meet in November. The team has a winning district record and usually advances to regional competition. We will have a meeting after school today, the 25th, in Mrs.Triece’s Room 228, to “get acquainted” and begin studying the spelling and vocabulary words. Even if you cannot stay for the meeting today, stop by to pick up the word list.

Congratulations to…….
The PreAP Sculpture Students
competed in the Carved Pumpkin Category Thursday night at Ellis Home and
Garden's Pumpkin Glow. Co-winners were Hilario Campos and Jailene Romo: each
took home a crisp $100 bill. Second place went to Kaylan Fambles earning $50.
Please congratulate these students when you see them in your classroom or the
hallway!
Over the weekend the Longview High School Speech and Debate team traveled
to the Hallsville High School October Games Speech and Debate Tournament. This
was the second tournament of the season and Longview High School came home very
successful. The Freshman debate of Seema Brimmer and Trevor O'Connor took 6th
place in varsity Cross Examination debate. Seema Brimmer was also the top
speaker in CX Debate and Trevor took 3rd speaker. In Lincoln Douglas Debate,
Sophomore Erick Ramirez took 4th place and Freshman Mallary Riddle took 3rd.
Mallary also took top speaker in LD. This is an amazing accomplishment for these
students who have only competed at one other tournament. Please congratulate
these students and wish them good luck when they travel to the next tournament
on November 3rd.
The Lobo Band competed at UIL marching contest this past Saturday.
The performance earned the band a first division from the entire judging panel.
All of the comments from the judges and directors were very complimentary.
This first division marks the 63rd back-to-back first division rating at UIL
marching contest which allows the Longview Band to maintain the national record
for consecutive superior ratings in the state contest. Congratulations
Lobo band!

Over the weekend the Longview High School Speech and Debate team traveled to the
Hallsville High School October Games Speech and Debate Tournament. This was the
second tournament of the season and Longview High School came home very
successful.. The Freshman debate of Seema Brimmer and Trevor O'Connor took 6th
place in varsity Cross Examination debate. Seema Brimmer was also the top
speaker in CX Debate and Trevor took 3rd speaker. In Lincoln Douglas Debate,
Sophomore Erick Ramirez took 4th place and Freshman Mallary Riddle took 3rd.
Mallary also took top speaker in LD. This is an amazing accomplishment for these
students who have only competed at one other tournament. Please congratulate
these students and wish them good luck when they travel to the next tournament

See you there! The Lobo Band competed at UIL marching contest this past Saturday. The performance earned the band a first division from the entire judging panel. All of the comments from the judges and directors were very complimentary. This first division marks the 63rd back-to-back first division rating at UIL marching contest which allows the Longview Band to maintain the national record for consecutive superior ratings in the state contest. Congratulations Lobo band!

Are you interested in computer programming? Consider joining our UIL
Computer Programming team. Learn Java and train for upcoming

October is National Anti-Bullying Month. Wednesday, October 10, is National
Unity Day and everyone who is against bullying is being asked to wear orange
that day. To emphasize National Anti-Bullying Month and to encourage everyone at
LHS to wear orange, the Gay Straight Alliance is hosting a week of activities
for Oct. 8 – 12 that have been approved by Mr. Brewer.
Any club who wishes to participate is welcome to create their own orange ribbons
and have their club members wear orange on Weds.
IS sophomores and IB juniors, don't forget about the Bring Your Own Breakfast

The UIL Academic team would like to thank you for your attendance at "Longview
High School's got Talent" on Saturday evening. We had twenty fantastic acts plus
two phenomenal teacher acts - Kristina Glenn and Heather Cisco. Winning acts
were: 3rd Place "Let Go, Let God" Tyauanna Benton, Reggie Smith, Cadell
Williams; 2nd Place "Rachmaninoff Prelude in C# Minor" Chris Yu; 1st Place

in the Gladewater Invitational over this past weekend.

IB students will be selling wristbands during lunches today and Monday for
Learning for Limbs Jean Day on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd. A $1.00 donation will
allow you to wear jeans along with a green wristband on Tuesday. A $2.00
donation will allow you to wear jeans AND a spirit shirt along with a yellow
wristband on Tuesday. If you lose the wristband you will have to purchase
another. All money collected will go toward the purchase of an artificial
limb for someone in need in Africa.
