Texas United States Senate Youth Leadership Program (includes $5,000 scholarship.)

The Texas United States Senate Youth Program is for high school students who demonstrate leadership and an interest in government.  Two Texas junior or senior students are selected.  The William Randolph Hearst Foundation pays all expenses for the week-long Washington stay, including transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals.  Each delegate is awarded a $5000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies by the Williams Randolph Hearst Foundation.  For further details and a copy of the official application form go to http://www.tea.state.tx.us/guidance/syp.html 

The student must currently serve in an elected capacity in any one of the following student government , civic or educational organizations:

  • Student Body: President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer
  • Class:  President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer
  • Student Council:  Representative
  • District, regional or state-level civic or educational organizations representative

Note:  School clubs (e.g., Chess Club) are not considered civic or educational organizations.
