Local Scholarships for LHS Seniors The following
scholarships have been offered by organizations in the Longview, Texas
area and are offered only to seniors who attend Longview High School in
Longview, Texas.
Please
be aware that Longview High School does not endorse any scholarship
listed below; students and parents are advised to read all instructions
and information carefully before applying. Longview High School neither
encourages or discourages students to apply for any scholarship. |

| March 31, 2008 | East Texas Professional Credit Union McLauchlin Scholarship for Education Majors | Graduating seniors who are members or who have an immediate family member with an account with ETPCU. The applicant must work towards a degree in education and maintain a minimum course of 12 hours, during each semester, for the first year of college. The applicant must maintain a GPA of 2.5 during each semester. Only one scholarship per family per year. Each of five recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship. |

Presidential Scholarship for all majors NOTE: You cannot apply for both the Education and the Presidential scholarships |
Graduating seniors who are members or who have

Include official transcript, two-page essay about your future plans and how the scholarship will help you, and three sealed character reference letters from one current or past teacher and two from the community. Nine scholarships are awarded for $2,500 with $1,250 distributed each semester. Fourteen scholarships are $500 for one semester of college. Must have a 2.5 GPA. |

For seniors women only. Two $1,000 scholarships will
benefit two students. Complete application in scholarship drawer,
and include transcript, three letters of recommendation, financial
information, and a 300 word statement describing your educational goals
and objectives and who or what has been the strongest influence in your
life.

Three $500 scholarships are offered to seniors.
Application is available in the scholarship drawer. You must write
a 500 word essay on how you were influenced to form your pro-life
beliefs and how you plan to continue to take a stand for your beliefs in
the future.

| April 11, 2008 | Texas Exes | For outstanding students who meet the admission requirements to The University of Texas at Austin. Seniors only. Application in the scholarship drawer. |
| February 15, 2008 | Burger King Scholars | Awards are for $1,000 each and the recipient may use the funds for education expenses such as tuition fees and books. To obtain eligibility and an application, go to www.bk.com/scholars. |

| March 3, 2008 | ETCADA/Elwanda Burgess Scholarship | Scholarship for $500. Student will write a 300-750 word essay entitled "How Do I Talk to My Parents About Drugs. Must read winning essay at ETCADA meeting 5/15/08. For seniors only. |
| February 12, 2008 | Papa John's Scholars | Also located at www.pjscholars.com. Submission dates are different due to the school not receiving the initial paperwork. Submit application to the counselors no later than Feb. 12, 2008. |
| April 1, 2008 | LRMC Volunteer Scholarship | Must have a 3.0 GPA and certified copies of ACT or SAT scores. Three references are required: two from school and one from the community. Must include personal biography. For LHS seniors going into a medical related field. |
| April 4, 2008 | Attorney Felecia Shankle-Rogers Scholarship | Must have a C+ GPA. Needs short essay on career goals. |
| April 1, 2008 | Longview Area Realtors | $1,000 for five students. Must write essay on career goals. |
| April 4, 2008 | TXDOT Don't Mess with Texas | One $3,000 and two $1,000 scholarships. Must write one of two essays or both essays and get two letters of recommendation. |

| April 18, 2008 by 1 p.m. | Hudson PEP | Must have attended Hudson PEP and have a 3.0 GPA. |
| April 15, 2008 | Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation | Must be considered a dependent of an active member-consumer currently receiving electrical service from URECC. Must have taken ACT/SAT. |
| March 3, 2008 | Sam Houston State Smith-Hutson Scholarship | For business majors. Up to $12,000 per year. |
| March 14, 2008 | Bettina Gray Scholarship Capt. William Young Chapter of the DAR | For LHS women only. Essay on goals for the future and how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals. Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or principals. |
| April 1, 2008 | East Texas Society of Petroleum Engineers | For seniors seeking a BS degree in Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. |
| April 15, 2008 | Country Patches Quilt Guild | $600 for a deserving student with a strong interest in textile arts or related creative/homemaking skills. GPA B or above. Two reference letters required. |
| April 1, 2008 | Texas State Technical College-Marshall | Several Scholarships are available ranging from $250-$1,000. Also for students living within 50 miles radius of TSTC, there are $6,000 scholarships. Get application from the Guidance Office or www.marshall.tstc.edu/financialaid/scholarships |
| April 30, 2008 | B. Don Magness Texas Cares for Children Scholarship | For senior men only. $1,000 scholarship. |
| March 25, 2008 | Longview Partnership | 19 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 are offered. For seniors whose parent(s)/guardian is a member of the Longview Partnership Chamber of Commerce. Interview required of finalists. |
| April 15, 2008 | Longview 2020 Forum Scholarship | Seniors may apply for one of several $2,000 scholarships that are disbursed at $500 per semester for 4 consecutive semesters. |
| April 11, 2008 | Top Teens of America Scholarship | For Top Teens only. Essay and recommendation from Top Teen Advisor and from LHS. |
| April 30, 2008 | Mike Politi Memorial Golf Scholarship | For senior men or women golfers. |
| April 1, 2008 | Junior Achievement of East Texas | For seniors who participated in the JA Program in economics. Two $1,000 scholarships and a $500 scholarship are offered. |
| March 28, 2008 | Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors Scholarship | Scholarship available in the Guidance Office. Student Board of Directors and employees of TBT are ineligible for this scholarship. |
| March 15, 2008 | Z Club Scholarship | For senior Z-Club members. Application available through Mrs. Lester, Mrs. Walker or in the Guidance Office. |
| April18, 2008 | Robert Sullivan Memorial Scholarship | For students of Longview High School. Get application in Guidance Office. Extended another week. |
| April 11, 2008 | Longview Tennis Association | For students in the tennis program of Longview schools. |

Other requirements include three letters of recommendation and a copy of your transcript with class rank listed. Other information in Guidance Office. Multiple $1,000 scholarships offered. |

| April 16, 2008 | Mozelle Johnston Memorial Scholarship | Must have attended Mozelle Johnston Elementary. Students must submit transcript, application, essay, SAT/ACT scores, and two letters of recommendation including one letter from an LISD faculty member. |
| May 10, 2008 | Goss-Michael Foundation | Must pursue a fine arts degree. Applicant must submit a 1,000 essay "Why I Deserve This Scholarship," transcript, resume, letters of recommendation from the principal and art teacher, and CD or slides of 10 original works. $5,000 scholarship. |
| April 14, 2008 | Longview Educational Support Staff Association | For students majoring in business or education. Must complete application and write a one-page essay on your career plans. Need two letters of recommendation from teachers and a copy of your transcript. |
