National Scholarships for Seniors

Local Scholarships are also available for LHS Students Only.

Here are a few scholarships that are available for application. Please read to see if one or more interests you. If you wish to apply, you may go directly to the website and get more information by clicking on the link provided. You may apply online if that option is available or you may print out your own application. If you do not have printing capabilities you may obtain a paper application from the "Scholarship Drawer," located  in the large lateral file in the upstairs Counseling Center. All students may help themselves to information in the scholarship drawer. This is by no means an exhaustive list of scholarships, but it will get you started in your search for money for college. The Guidance Department recommends that you visit one of the free scholarship search services, such as Fast Web, to register to receive scholarship opportunities in your personal e-mail box.  If you need  assistance with any scholarship questions, Mrs. Eneman is available in the upstairs counseling center to help you or you may contact your counselor. Remember to read the Scholarship Tips to make the job of applying for scholarships a bit less overwhelming.
Longview High School does not
endorse any scholarship listed below; students and parents are advised to read all instructions and information carefully before applying. Longview High School neither encourages or discourages students to apply for any scholarship.

Beware of Scholarship Scams

You may receive a letter in your mail inviting you to attend a financial aid seminar where you can discover money set aside just for you and your student?  It is possibly a scam! Just last year, a few LHS parents spent up to $900 to enlist a private scholarship search agency to find supposedly untapped scholarship money. These students and parents reported that the agency they contracted with found nothing more than what was available to all students on the Internet. They even missed out applying for the locally offered scholarships because this agency did not notify them about these scholarships. Don't become a victim; arm yourself with the facts. Read about such Financial Aid Seminar Scams here.

If you are entering a literary writing contest, such as a poetry writing contest or essay writing contest, please visit this website to read about possible scams. This website is maintained by Wind Publications as a service to published and unpublished poets. Remember that there are legitimate contests out there, but unfortunately there are also greedy organizations who prey on the gullibility of youth. Arm yourself with information before you become a victim. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of a contest, you might ask your English teacher for advice. Mrs. Eneman is also available to research a contest's validity for you.

Vocational-Technical School Scholarship Program

Enrollment in vocational and technical education programs is on the rise, owing in much part to the rapid development of new technology and the industries it creates. New and specialized technology creates a demand for the new and specialized skills that vo-tech programs provide. Many of these jobs pay well -- better than the average job landed by a four-year college graduate. And usually, the price tag for a vo-tech education is significantly lower than a four-year school. But vo-tech programs cost money, too. The training is specialized, and it's not always cheap. In light of that, we offer the StraightForward Media Vocational-Technical Scholarships to those of you who are trying to get ahead in life with one of these programs. Established in 2004, StraightForward Media's $500 Vocational-Technical School Scholarships are offered four times per year. Students must apply online and there are two essays that must be submitted. There is no minimum or maximum word limit on essay questions. Essay topics are:

·         How will a vocational/technical education contribute to the improvement of yourself and your community?

·          How will a StraightForward Media Vocational-Technical School Scholarship help you meet your educational and professional goals?
