The LHS Counseling Staff is here to assist studentsand parents in creating a learning environment that will help promote the student's success throughout his/her secondary educational experience and beyond. Each counselor is responsible for the educational welfare of approximately 500 students. Students who need to speak with their counselor about academic issues that include schedule changes, graduation credit status, and college/career matters should sign that counselor's sign-up sheet in the appropriate counselor's office. It is the classroom teacher's prerogative to issue the student a hall pass to leave the classroom to visit the counseling center to sign up for an appointment with his/her counselor. After signing, the student should return to class and wait for counselor to send a pass requesting this or her presence. If a teacher will not permit a student to leave class, students may sign his or her counselor's sign up sheet during lunch, before/after school or between classes providing the student is not tardy to class. Note: The counseling center does not issue tardy excuse passes to students who are late to class unless the counselor detains the student, causing the tardiness. Any student with any kind of personal issue should ask to see the counselor at once. Personal problems take priority over other matters. A Note To Parents: The LHS counseling staff is available to you as well and looks forward to discussing your student's academic progress or problems with you. Please understand that counselors have many responsibilities and obligations to both students and faculty/administration and are not always available to meet with you. We regret that parents often take time off from their job to travel to the school campus only to discover that the counselor is out ill or off campus at a meeting. It best serves both you and the counselor if you call ahead and make an appointment and give the counselor a reason for your visit. In doing so, you give the counselor time to prepare for your visit so that he/she can efficiently maximize your time.
